Regent Warsaw Hotel
Regent Warsaw Hotel is a five-star hotel in the centre of Warsaw, surrounded by the greenery of Łazienki Park. The eight-storey building houses 246 rooms, a spa, conference rooms and a prestigious ballroom for 450 guests. For a hotel that combines luxury with an offer for business, PROAV selected and installed a new projection system in the ballroom and fitted the other rooms with wall connection points for laptops.
The ballroom had a projector and a 4-metre-wide screen, but the light from the lens fell on two large chandeliers and their shadows were visible on the screen. This reduced presentation quality and the comfort of both guests and event organisers.
Before proposing a device, we analysed the ceiling geometry and the possible mounting positions. We were looking for a solution that would remove the shadows from the screen within the client's budget and without interfering with the room's décor.
Solutions used:

Industries:

Limited mounting space. Besides the chandeliers, the ceiling also carries fire alarm detectors, an air-conditioning extract and a ceiling loudspeaker. The distance between the projector and the screen was therefore strictly dictated by the architecture of the room.
A large image with no clash with the chandeliers. A projector with a standard lens could not produce a 4-metre image without the chandeliers blocking the beam, while an ultra-short-throw projector would not deliver an image of that size.
A sensible budget. The client's brief ruled out installation projectors with interchangeable lenses. Very high brightness was not required, however, as the room has dimmable lighting.
Short-throw projection matched to the room. Based on our analysis of the space, we selected the Optoma EH515ST short-throw projector with Full HD resolution and 5000 ANSI lumens brightness. Its throw ratio allows it to fill the full width of the screen from a mounting position where the light beam clears the chandeliers.
Aesthetics in keeping with the interior. The compact white projector is discreet against the ceiling and blends into the elegant décor of the ballroom. We routed the signal to it from a connection point installed on a column behind the screen.

Presenters' laptops connected without adapters. Next to the projectors in the hotel's other rooms, we installed Key Digital wall plates with HDMI and VGA with audio inputs. An automatic switcher detects the active input, so a presentation starts without manually selecting the source.
A stable image over long distances. An integrated scaler with an HDBaseT transmitter sends the video signal to the projector over twisted-pair cable while maintaining high image quality, regardless of the distance between the wall plate and the device.
A carefully chosen mounting point and projector optics solved the problem that had limited the use of the ballroom. The image is detailed and free of shadows, and the device does not disrupt the interior design. The hotel can now offer the room both for conferences and presentations and for special occasions with film screenings.
Presenters in the other rooms connect their laptops to a single wall connection point, and hotel staff no longer need to prepare adapters before each event. We fitted out multi-purpose rooms in a similar way at Hotel Mercure in Mrągowo.
PROAV's scope of work covered analysing possible mounting positions, selecting the projector, installing it on the ballroom ceiling including the signal feed, and fitting wall connection points in the other rooms. As a result, the hotel received a solution tailored to the architecture of the interior rather than a standard projection kit.
