Nomad Electric

Office building with a tall white tower, home to Nomad Electric's headquarters

Nomad Electric specialises in building and servicing large photovoltaic farm complexes and manages more than 170 solar farms in Poland. The company is expanding into further markets, offering construction of PV farms and commercial installations in countries including Italy, Spain and Portugal. In the Nomad Electric office, PROAV designed and commissioned a video wall for presenting operational indicators, controlled by software that lets users arrange data freely on the screens.

Project challenge

The client needed a system for bringing together and comparing statistics, charts and indicators from various sources: files stored on employees' workstations, websites and remote sources. Ease of use was key, and the system had to allow further screens to be added.

We design video walls for energy sector companies around the way operators work, so we based our choice of equipment on an analysis of the data sources and of how the team would use them day to day.

Requirements for the AV system

Flexible data layout. A designated employee was to change the display layout independently so that, depending on operational needs, a given screen could show one or many data sources at once.

Clear, high-resolution image. The indicators shown must be fully legible and leave staff in no doubt. This called for screens delivering a detailed image and equipment that makes it possible to manage the layout of the content displayed.

Ready for expansion. From the outset, the system configuration had to allow for additional display devices to be added in the future without replacing its key components.

A video wall built from seamless displays

2×2 configuration. We built the video wall from LG VM5E seamless displays in a 2×2 configuration. The narrow bezels mean that charts and tables spanning several displays remain legible.

Shared working surface. For the expansion period, we supplemented the system with LG 75" displays, which will eventually be replaced by further seamless modules. This created a single wide display at the client's premises for presenting the most important indicators.

Mounting with service access. We mounted the displays on EDBAK VW-POP65L pop-out mounts designed for video walls. Mounts of this type let you pull a selected display out of the wall plane, making it easier to access during servicing.

Video wall processor and software

Many sources in one system. At the heart of the system is an Ultimate Visual Solutions UVS WBC40 video wall processor with individually configured input and output cards. It accepts signals from four fixed sources, from sources on the LAN and from internet sources, while HDMI and IP video decoding ensures compatibility with network sources.

User-defined image layouts. UVS Lucidity software lets the client control the whole system and create any image layout on selected displays. The processor's four slots allow further expansion cards to be added when the video wall is enlarged.

Outcome

The Nomad Electric team now has a shared view of the most important operational data. Statistics, charts and indicators from different sources can be placed side by side and compared without switching between applications on workstations.

The user changes the screen layout themselves to suit current needs: one source across the whole wall or many smaller windows with different data. No support from the integrator is needed every time the presentation changes.

As part of the project, we selected the seamless displays, mounts and processor, built the 2×2 video wall together with the supplementary displays, and connected the processor to fixed, network and internet sources. We commissioned the whole system with UVS Lucidity software, in which the user manages the image layout.

Choosing a processor that supports expansion cards, together with dedicated video wall mounts, has prepared the system for the planned expansion with further seamless modules.
